LEWISTON — Arthur J. Labonte, 93, formerly of 19 White St., Lewiston, died Sunday, July 25, at the d’Youville Pavilion.
Born in Lewiston, Dec. 9, 1916, he was the son of Peter and Olivine Bourassa Labonte. Educated in a one room schoolhouse, the old Jackson School on upper Main Street, Lewiston, he was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps.
On Sept. 26, 1959, he married the former Ellen A. Parker, who passed away on Sept. 20, 2008. Prior to his retirement, he worked for many years in the local textile industry.
He spent many winters in Cape Canaveral, Fla., and for 30 years enjoyed his summer home on Bailey Island. A member of the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Prince of Peace Parish, he enjoyed playing cribbage, poker, and solitaire, in his younger years was an active snow shoer and ice fisher, enjoyed watching “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy,” and was especially fond of Friendly’s Butter Crunch Ice Cream. Arthur’s favorite expression was “carry on,” and so we shall.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, May Burke of Lewiston; a niece, Ann Thomas of Bailey Island; and a grandnephew, Avery Thomas of Bailey Island.
Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Henry Labonte in January 1979.
