FARMINGTON — After cutting the tax rate for towns and plantations the past four years, Franklin County commissioners last week raised the tax rate by 6 cents to $1 per $1,000 of property valuation.
The rate for 2009-10 was 94 cents, which was 1 cent lower than the 2008 rate, and 11 cents lower than the 2007 rate of $1.05.
Commissioners last week approved a $4.66 million tax assessment for the 2010-11 fiscal year. The unorganized territories’ share of county taxes increased from $215,354 last year to $239,900 this year.
The commission also set the due dates for tax bills. The first half is due Sept. 1; the second half, Feb. 1, 2011. Interest will begin to accrue 60 days after the due dates.
