OXFORD — Kenneth W. Verrill, beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather, passed away suddenly on Monday, July 26.
He was born in Damariscotta, Oct. 30, 1956, the only son of Maynard and Carolyn Verrill.
At age 17, he joined the U.S. Army, proudly serving as a staff sergeant in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1977.
In 1980, he married the love of his life and his best friend, Vicky and acquired her three daughters, whom he treated as his own. They had a son in 1979, and adopted another child in the 1990s. They raised all of their children in Oxford, where they also made their home.
Ken was well-known throughout the community as an honest, hardworking, big hearted man. His commitment to various civic activities was the driving force of his life.
He was a proud member of the Oxford Lodge 18 AF & AM, and proudly served as Master in 2009, where his leadership and integrity left a mark on all who knew him. He was also a member of the Oxford Chapter 29, R.A.M., he served on the board of Norway Masonic trustees, the Board of Directors of the Progress Center, the Oxford Budget Committee, and 16 years as lieutenant for the Oxford Fire Department.
In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing with his grandsons, attending their various sporting events and even umping a game or two. He also enjoyed his swimming and movie dates with Princess Gator. His grandchildren were the light of his life and spending time with them would sometimes be cause to “sneak out of work.”
He was the best father and husband and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Vicky; two sisters, Pat Kimball and Marie Crowley; five children, Jess Knightly and her husband, Ed, Bobbi-Jo Smith and her husband, Matt, Rae-Ann Kane and her husband, Ryan, Travis Verrill and Billie-Jo Groves and her partner, Shawna Austin; his grandchildren, Adam Kane, Matthew (Pooky) Smith, Princess Gator (Diva) Monique Verrill, Taytay and Evan; three special nieces, Courtney, Kimberly and Becky; and his beloved crew at Polly’s and Record Building Supply.
