LEEDS — The Leeds Historical Society’s Antique Appraisal Fair, held on June 17, was a success. “There were people having their antiques appraised non-stop for the whole four hours,” said Pam Bell, who helped organize the event.
Thomaston Place Antique Galleries donated their expertise, enabling the historical society to raise almost $600. ‘”Its our largest fundraiser of the year,” said Bell. “It was a beautiful day, and people had a great time standing in the sun, looking at each other’s treasures and hearing the stories that went with them.”
The society is selling an 18-month calendar running from July 2010 and through December 2011, featuring photographs of Leeds in days gone by. The photos range from one taken of the Keene’s Corner School in spring term of 1932 to one of Josiah Burnham drinking from a stoneware jug circa 1917, to one of Leeds Central School students square dancing in the 1970s.
Calendars are on sale at the Leeds Town Office for $10. They will also be sold, along with Leeds commemorative pottery, at the Leeds Volunteer Fire Dept. barn sale the weekend of Aug. 14 and 15.
Society members hope to resume interviewing Leeds residents in the fall, with an eye to creating another program based on those interviews.
People with questions regarding any of the society projects may call Laura Juraska at 524-2324 or Pam Bell at 933-4121.
