AUGUSTA — Joe (Dyer) Whitmore, 66, of Bowdoinham, died July 26, at Augusta Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Dec. 1, 1943, in Gardiner, the son of Lillian Whitmore Dyer. He was educated in the Freeport schools. He married Denise Brewer in 1986 in Lewiston.

He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. He did various jobs throughout his colorful career including carnival, shoe shops and clam digging. He enjoyed the ocean and all types of fishing.

He is survived by his wife and companion of 27 years, Denise of Bowdoinham; children, Joseph F. Curtis of Lisbon Falls, Darcey Boucher of Sabattus, Jodi Dufault of Webster, Mass., Christopher Nichols of Lewiston, Georgette Whitmore of Troy, N.Y., Wendy Haley of Gardiner and Rick Haley of Farmingdale; brothers, Robert, Walford, Kurt and Hugh Dyer; sisters, Carol Golding, Amber Ruby and Jackie Dyer; 43 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; in-laws; and ‘special’ cousins.

He was predeceased by his mother, Lillian; children, Lee, Joanne, Kirk and Robert; grandson, James; sisters, Sylvia and Marjorie; as well as his second mother, Aunt Laura McFarland.
