FARMINGTON — Robert H. Holmes, 78, formerly of Oxford, died Wednesday, July 28, at the Edgewood Living Center, where he had resided the past couple of years.

He was born in Bridgton, Aug. 22, 1931, the son of Charles and Edna (Smith) Holmes Jr. and graduated in 1950 from Denmark High School.

He had worked for his father as a painter and carpenter, Charles Holmes General Contractor in the Denmark area. He did maintenance of summer camps in the area and was head of maintenance at Camp Pinecrest in Naples for a year, then for more than 27 years in area shoe companies. He also worked as head of maintenance at Burger King in South Paris for many years.

Over the years, he had played guitar in the area churches and participated in local church choirs. He was formerly active as a second lieutenant in the Civil Air Patrol (CAP). He loved gardening and was well-known for his garden peas.

He was married in Norway, Oct. 20, 1956, to the former Marjorie Winslow, who died in 1994.

Survivors include his daughter, Deborah Woodsum and husband, Ralph, of Perkins Township; a sister, Carol Farley and husband, Howard “Sonny,” of Hiram; a granddaughter, Jamie White and husband, Tom, of Casco; and three great-grandchildren, Tameika and Kerrianna Girardin and Keegan White, all of Casco.
