LEWISTON — The SeniorsPlus Education Center, 8 Falcon Road, will offer the following classes during August:

“Budgeting on a Fixed Income,” Monday, Aug. 9, 10 a .m. to noon, with Kim Polley from Community Credit Union. Participants will learn new ways to budget and stretch their money.

“The Healing Power of Journaling,” Friday, Aug. 13, 2 to 3 p.m., with SeniorsPlus staff Rhonda Clukey, Caregiver Support Program coordinator.

“Advance Directive: What Is It? Who Can Complete One? How Do I Fill One Out? What if I Change My Mind?,” Wednesday, Aug. 18, 10:30 a.m. to noon, with Denis Culley, staff attorney, Maine State Legal Services for the Elderly. An Advance Directive is similar to what used to be called a living will. Attendees will learn the ins and outs of an Advance Directive in a relaxed setting.

“Medicare 101,” Wednesday, Aug. 25, 10 a.m. to noon, with SeniorsPlus staff Arlene Friis and Roland Bussiere, Medicare counselors.

Participants will learn the basics of the system and will learn how they can be sure they are getting the best coverage.

“Ways to Support People with Brain Injuries,” Thursday, Aug. 26, 5:30 to 7 p.m., with Gary Wolcott, program manager, Brain Injury Services, DHHS, State of Maine. Attendees will receive an overview of the brain and its functions, as well as resources for those caring for a brain injured individual with challenging behaviors.

“Citylink’s Changes,” Friday, Aug. 27, 10 to 11:30 a.m., with Marsha Bennett, the transit coordinator for Western Maine Transportation Services. Participants will learn about the changes, including Saturday transportation, free fares and wheelchair accessibility. Those attending will receive a free ride.

“Learn What SeniorsPlus Has to Offer,” Monday, Aug. 30, 10 to 11 a.m., with SeniorsPlus staff Carmen Carney.
