NORWAY — Rain forced the Western Maine Art Group to move the date of the Chair-ity Auction to Friday, Aug. 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. The event will be held on the grounds of the Matolcsy Arts Center under a tent with cocktails and appetizers from 5 to 6 p.m., with the auction to follow from 6 to 7 p.m. The event is open to the public.

Joe Gaidis will take bids with the assistance of Paul Thornfedt. The items to be auctioned are hand-painted and made furniture, not limited to chairs, many of which were antiques or gently used before their transformation by the local artists.

The pieces are currently on exhibit and open to silent bidding at the Lajos Matolcsy Arts Center, 480 Main St. Gallery hours are from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday and from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. They also can be viewed online at www.auctionzip.com under Gaidis Auction Company.

The auction is a fundraiser that helps WMAG to effectively provide the kind of foundation to create newsletters for its members and friends, to give the needed assistants to keep the gallery open, help keep paperwork up to date and to begin to look at possibilities of preserving the building for future generations to enjoy and utilize.
