Blacksmiths to meet

WILTON — The Western Maine Blacksmith’s Association will have its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, at the Wilton Historical Society. There will be discussion on upcoming events and new projects.

The demonstration will be by Rodney Porter on “How to Make a nice forge with no welding needed.” Visitors are welcome and are encouraged to attend.

Adventure camp

CARRABASSETT VALLEY — Carrabassett Valley Academy will offer an Adventure Camp from Tuesday to Saturday, Aug. 17 to 21, for kids between the ages of 12 to 17.

The camp will be five days of exploring Maine’s western mountains. Campers will backpack, whitewater raft and experience a ropes course. For more information, contact Chad Coleman at 778-1651 or [email protected].

WAYNE — The Vaughan Homestead Foundation and The Kennebec Land Trust will sponsor “The Lakes of Maine, and Their Place in the Geological History of North America” with geologist Robert Thorson.

The program will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, at the Ladd Center, Gott Road.

Thorson is a professor of geology at the University of Connecticut and the author most recently of “Beyond Walden: The Hidden History of America’s Kettle Lakes and Ponds.” He will reveal the story of the kettle lakes of Maine and the important role they play in ecology.
