OXFORD — Developer George Schott, who purchased the former Burlington Homes plant and land on Route 26 for $418,000 in 2008 said Thursday that he has had several offers to buy or lease the facility but all have fallen through.

“Nothing that I know of,” Schott said when asked what the plans were for the 77,000-square-foot building at 613 Main St.

The building has an additional 4,100 square feet of office space and sits on 13.5 acres bordering routes 26 and 121.

Schott, of Greene, purchased the building at auction in December 2008 but at that time said he was not sure what his plans were except to find a client to lease the building and then redevelop it to suit the client’s needs. He said at the time that typically that type of redevelopment takes about two years to complete.

Schott said Thursday the he has received interest in the building but for one reason or another, plans have failed to materialize.

“I had one guy interested in buying it but he decided it was too big a project,” Schott said. A second potential leaser turned back when they could not reach terms on the lease. A third party wanted owner financing, which Schott said he declined to do.

The factory, which was owned by Burlington Associates, closed down in early 2008 due to lack of business and the poor economy after 14 years in operation. Some 70 workers lost their jobs.

Schott owns the Auburn Mall and Mt. Auburn Plaza and sold the Auburn Plaza in 2003.
