AUBURN — Carol Ann King, 76, of Lake Auburn Townhouse Apartments, passed away early Friday, July 30, at The Hospice House with family at her side.

She was born in Lincoln, Nov. 28, 1933, a daughter of James W. and Thelma A. (Haynes) Whalen. She was educated in Lincoln schools and remained a resident of that community most of her life until spending the last 15 years in Lewiston-Auburn. Carol spent most of her years as a homemaker as her children were growing, but also did work a few various jobs from time to time such as installing vinyl siding on homes with her husband and over-the-road truck driving and transporting, also with her husband. For a number of years, she also worked as a handsewer and stitcher.

Among her favorite hobbies were doing crafts, crocheting and, in recent years, quilting and putting together puzzles. Carol’s absolute favorite love was making teddy bears out of true fur that had been donated from family and friends. Each bear was intricately stitched and assembled by hand with love, down to the finest details, including moveable arms and legs. Carol created many impressive bears for family and friends over the years.

She was a loving, devoted and hardworking wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

She leaves three daughters, Thelma (Peppy) Meanor and husband, Allen, of Delanson, N.Y., Sally Ann Laviolette and husband, Joseph, of Schenectady, N.Y., and Jeannine M. Becvar and husband, Richard, of Greene; three sons, James M. King and wife, Diann, of Lewiston, Roland J. King of Lincoln and Jeremy D. King and wife, Candy, of Bangor; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, with three more due to be born in the coming months; and two sisters, Becky Bruce and husband, Millard, of Lincoln and Jane Farrington and husband, Phil, of Chester, and Alaska.

Carol was predeceased by her husband, Roland (Hampy) King; a grandson, Aron Becvar; a daughter-in-law, Jane (Butterfield) King; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Freda and Edmond Daigle.
