PORTLAND — David W. Colburn, 81, of Wilton, died early Thursday, July 29, at Maine Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Worcester, Mass., Sept. 24, 1928, a son of George and Myrtle (Buss) Colburn. He received his education in Worcester schools and attended Boston University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served in the Korean Conflict.
On July 28, 1951, he married Helen Hedge in Worcester. He was employed for many years at Monarch Insurance Co. in Springfield, where he was vice president of Health and Disability, retiring in 1981.
Mr. Colburn was a member of the Morning Star Masonic Lodge, and was a member of the Wilton Congregational Church, where he shared his love of music by directing the church choir for 12 years. He enjoyed tennis, golf, biking, and skiing and was a member of the National Ski Patrol. He also was a member of the Wilton Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen (Hedge) of Wilton; son, Glenn and his wife, Cindy, of Monson, Mass., and their daughters, Lyndsey, Caroline and Lauren; daughter, Susan Pickrell and her husband, Jim, of Farmington, and their sons, Zach and Nate; and son, John and his wife, Alison, of Westfield, Mass., and their children, Heather, Molly and Neal.
He was predeceased by a sister, Gloria; and a brother, Herbert.
