In the Sun Journal article regarding Lake Auburn (July 25), both sides made sensible comments. What doesn’t make sense are some of the current restrictions.
Currently, there is no trespassing or boat access to a large portion of the lake. From a standpoint of motorized boating, that restriction has some merit.
What doesn’t have merit is restricting fishing from shore in that area and not allowing fishing or recreational boating from non-motorized watercraft.
The feces from the droves of sea gulls and waterfowl that roam the lake, are certainly more of a contaminant than the casting of a lure or even a worm on a hook into the water.
On a separate note, residents pay according to how much water they use. I wonder if the district gets any revenue from the commercial haulers that remove thousands of gallons of water each year and charge the public to fill swimming pools with that same water?

Editor’s note: Companies that pull water from Lake Auburn to fill pools pay a $25 registration fee to the Auburn Water District at the beginning of each summer, and pay 30 cents for each 1,000 gallons hauled during the season.
