On Saturday, July 31, Lewiston-Auburn area residents will respond to “So You Think You Can Dance” producer/judge Nigel Lithgoe’s challenge for people across the country to get up and dance on his proclaimed “National Dance Day.”

Acclaimed French-Canadian dance master and accordionist Benoit Bourque will lead a procession of musicians and dancers along the newly expanded Riverwalk, from Great Falls (by the Hilton Garden Inn Riverwatch), under the bridge and to the park at the Auburn end of the old railroad trestle, now a pedestrian walkway.

There, under Benoit’s guidance, people will, in the style of old-time Quebecois contra dance, move across the river on the trestle. Benoit and his impromptu group of fiddlers and other musicians will lead dancers to the park on the Lewiston side, where the old Grand Trunk Railroad station is located.

People of all ages, whether they have dance training or have never danced a step, are invited to participate.

They should plan to be in the Great Falls parking lot by 1 p.m. For more details, e-mail event coordinator Cindy Larock at [email protected].
