AUBURN — The members of the Maine Wing Civil Air Patrol traveled to the Owl’s Head Transportation Museum on July 24 and 25 to attend the Wings and Wheels Spectacular and Aerobatic Airshow. The museum is home to a landmark collection of antique aircraft, automobiles, carriages, bicycles and engines.
The Maine Wing provided two CAP vans, cadets and senior members, and one C182 G 1000, which flew in on Sunday. Fog prevented the CAP planes to land on Saturday with air crews.
A recruiting table was displayed, with the history of the Maine Wing and pictures of some of its missions. Materials about joining CAP were given out to many who visited the museum and the recruiting team was available to answer questions.
The CAP cadets helped younger children construct airplanes and many of the homemade planes were flown in the hangar.
Captain Doug Hise of the 36th Composite Squadron of Augusta, a volunteer at the Owl’s Head Transportation Museum, arranged for the event. Members that attended were from Auburn-Lewiston Squadron 077th, Augusta Squadron 036th and Maine Wing staff. The Maine Wing has been invited by the staff and board to attend other events.
