FARMINGTON — John Peter Paul Scappaticci, 84, of Jay, returned home to our Lord on Saturday, July 31, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, with his family present.
John was born in Jay on May 28, 1926, the son of Antonio and Antoinette Scappaticci (Deicicchi) originally of Santo Padre, Italy.
John joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served for four years. He was stationed on the USS Iowa, which had several missions overseas during World War II.
John was employed at International Paper Co. until his retirement in the late 1980s. He was also employed by the Jay Police Department during the 1960s.
John was a member of the Sons of Italy and a lifelong member of the VFW and NRA.
John enjoyed walking, gardening, hunting, fishing and making great wine from his vineyard.
John is survived by his children, Nick Scappaticci of Bangor, John Scappaticci and his wife, Sunday, of Little Egg Harbor, N.J., Angela Welch and her husband, Tom, of Fayette, Antonio Scappaticci and his wife, Julie, of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Ann Sawyer of Old Orchard Beach; and his precious grandchildren, Noelle, Michael, Damien, Matthew and Gage.
He was predeceased by his wife, Agnes M. (Drysdale) Scappaticci, whom he married on Oct. 11, 1952, with whom he celebrated 51 years of marriage on Feb. 28, 2003; and a brother, Nick, who died during World War II.
