SOUTH PARIS — Ronald “Ponk” Buswell, 84, longtime resident of Fryeburg died peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the Maine Veteran’s Home in South Paris, on Friday, July 30, 2010.
He was the son of Wesley and Emily Buswell, and attended grammar school in North Fryeburg and then Fryeburg Academy before enlisting in the U.S. Navy on March 24, 1944. He was stationed in Key West, Fla., serving in the Naval Air Corp Division and was honorably discharged on March 25, 1946.
Ronald was well known as an avid hunter and fisherman as well as an accomplished guide. His two loves of life were the great outdoors and his family. Ronald’s early years of employment included the logging industry and The Yield House, and his retirement years were devoted to spending time with family.
He was predeceased by his first wife of 29 years, Marie Walsh Buswell, the mother of their six daughters.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Anita Brown Buswell; children, Catherine Wood and her husband, David, Lorraine McDonald and her husband, Peter, Sharon Buswell, Frances Dooan, Cynthia Kenerson and her husband, Wayne, and Veronica Lambert; stepchildren, Philip Brown and his wife, Pat, Rodney Brown, David Brown and his wife, Carol, Gail Graves and her husband, Peter; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
