Bridge results

LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Aug. 2 were as follows: first, Dick Allen and Richard Balian; second, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe; third, Lue Bilodeau and Rosemarie Goodwin.

Games are played at 9 a.m. every Monday and a partner is guaranteed. Call Rosemarie at 754-1431 for information about all duplicate bridge games in the area.

Society meeting

MINOT — The Minot Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10. The speaker will be Barry Allen, a surveyor with Main-Land Development Consultants of Livermore Falls. Allen has been surveying for 34 years and will speak on the topic, “Early Land Surveying in Maine.”

Society meetings are held at the Minot Town Office, Route 119 and are open to everyone. Refreshments will be served following the meeting. For more information, contact President Hester Gilpatric at 345-3040.

Friends of the NRA

LEWISTON — The Androscoggin Friends of NRA will host the annual fundraising banquet and auction at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Ramada Inn, 490 Pleasant St.

The event will include auctions, raffles and games using many limited edition NRA embellished firearms, prints and other merchandise. The event will raise funds for the local area, to support youth and adult firearms safety and education, wildlife conservation, range development, law enforcement as well as many other programs.

Yard sale

NEW GLOUCESTER — The first annual New Gloucester Historical Society yard sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Town Hall parking lot, 385 Intervale Road. Featured items will include antiques, cameras, furniture, pet items, household items, holiday materials, yard, garden, vinyl records and sheet music.

Chicken barbecue

GRAY — The Gray Fire-Rescue will host its annual chicken barbecue dinner Saturday, Aug. 7. Starting at noon, the chicken dinners can be purchased at the Gray Fire Rescue Central Station, 125 Shaker Road, Route 26. Dinners of a whole half-chicken will come with all the fixings, including coleslaw, chips and rolls with butter and a soda. Diners can takeout or sit inside.

Although they will prepare about 350 dinners, the chickens usually sell out by mid-afternoon. This is the 46th year the department has produced the dinners and department members look forward to serving up the meals for many years to come.
