AUBURN — On Thursday, Aug. 12, Sylvain’s Cajun Aces will rally the crowd with “whiskey-flavored mayhem from Old Acadie,” as part of L/A Arts’ Music in the Parks 2010 Concert Series.
The noon concert lasting about an hour will be in Festival Plaza, off Main Street. Admission is free. If it rains, the concert will be held at the Franco-American Heritage Center, 46 Cedar St., Lewiston.
Robert Sylvain, who descended from the original French settlers of Maine, once known as Acadia, is quick to remind people that “Acadians and Cajuns are well known for a lust for life, love and liquor — and for their unique and exciting music.”
The Cajun Aces continue a tradition of classic Cajun material brought to Old Acadie by Sylvain’s distant Cajun cousin, fiddler Matthew Doucet, who returned to his native Louisiana two years after starting the band Douce with Sylvain in 2004.
Performing with Sylvain are Portland music scene veteran Haakon “The Hawk” Kallweit on fiddle; Louisiana native Chad Huval on buttonbox accordian; and Pip Walter on upright bass. To hear a sample of their foot-stomping Cajun dance music, visit www.thecajunaces.com.
The final concert in the series on Thursday, Aug. 19, will feature Denny Breau and Brad Terry, also at Festival Plaza.
