LEWISTON — The Lewiston Maineiacs have added another piece of the puzzle to the final picture.

The Sun Journal learned Wednesday that Darren Rumble, who last was the head coach of the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League, is officially signed on with the Maineiacs as an associate coach.

“I absolutely love the dynamic that he brings to our team,” Maineiacs Managing Consultant and Governor Bill Schurman said in a release. “The players will love his energy, and knowledge of all levels of the game, from junior hockey to the highest professional level.”

The former Kitchener Ranger (OHL) was drafted in the first round of the NHL draft (No. 20 overall) in 1987 by the Philadelphia Flyers.

Along with the Flyers, Rumble had stints with the Ottawa Senators, St. Louis Blues and the Tampa Bay Lightning over his NHL career. In 193 regular season games, he tallied 10 goals with 26 assists, and 216 penalty minutes.

Rumble’s minor pro career spanned 752 regular season games with nine different clubs. He totaled 94 goals, 375 assists, and 469 penalty minutes in that span.

The former blueliner won the Eddie Shore trophy as the AHL’s best defenseman in 1996-97, while a member of the Philadelphia Phantoms.
