LEWISTON — Last spring, Carla Gill’s classroom at Geiger Elementary School started learning about growing a classroom garden. They learned about planting methods, building raised beds, using gardening and woodworking tools, different types of fruits and vegetables, plant life cycles and tending to a garden.

Planting the garden was made possible with the help of students and teachers and community donations from local businesses.

The garden includes cucumbers, tomatoes, pumpkin, peppers, cabbage, carrots, marigolds and summer squash.

Recently, Mike Ball, Lowe’s store manager, and Marc Morrisette, Lowe’s commercial manager, visited Geiger Elementary to “reap the harvest,” of Gill’s classroom garden. The student’s shared their first harvest of cucumbers with Ball and Morrisette.
