T. F. Murphy of the Lewiston Monumental Works is getting out considerable granite from the quarry on the Dyer Road at South Lewiston. He has two derricks there now and has filled several contracts for shipment already. He has other plans for the further development of this quarry that will make considerable business there.

Portland again led Maine’s cities in manufacturing during 1959, the State Labor & Industry Department reported today.
In its actual census of manufactures, the department said Portland firms produced goods worth 123 million dollars.
Lewiston ranked second among the cities, with 1959 manufactures worth $90,100,000. Westbrook was third at $66,700,000.

A substantial decrease in the cost of hospital rooms and lower-interest mortgage rates for homes are among the more glaring changes in a cost-of-living survey conducted in Lewiston-Auburn by the Chamber of Commerce, according to a report released by Chamber Executive Vice President William C. Harkins.
The survey, the second compiled this year for the Chamber and its American Chamber of Commerce Researchers Association, was just completed with the aid of Lewiston community development specialist Win Durgin and a team of volunteers.
