SWEDEN — Police were called to a home in Sweden late Wednesday night after a man threatening suicide also threatened police if they came onto his property.

Oxford County Sheriff’s Sgt. Tim Holland said the man, whom he declined to identify because of an ongoing investigation, called Togus veterans hospital in Augusta because he was feeling suicidal. Oxford County deputies were called to the residence, along with Maine State Police and Bridgton police.

“He made threats that if police came onto his property he would take care of the issue,” Holland said. “He hates police” and was in a standoff with police in 2006, Holland said.

Eventually, “he calmed down . . . and went to bed. We backed out for everybody’s safety. We didn’t want to create a situation,” Holland said, and there were no grounds to arrest him “at this time.”
