A preservation auction will be held Saturday, Aug. 14, at the barn at Shady Lane Farm, 97 Cobb’s Bridge Road, New Gloucester. The preview will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the auction will begin at 10 a.m. The auction will raise funds for historic preservation and programs at the First Congregational-Christian Church in New Gloucester. When the building was first opened in 1871, it was one of the largest rooms in New Gloucester available for public gatherings. A few weeks after the dedication, a stage was built for a visit and speech by Joshua Chamberlain, hero of the Battle of Gettysburg. The weather vane, pictured, is the next scheduled renovation, which was knocked askew during a February storm. Visit www.ngucc.org for more information.
