RUMFORD – Theodore J. “Ted” Tanguay, 89, of Rumford, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010 at the Rumford Hospital, Rumford.

He was born in Rumford, Oct. 18, 1920, a son of Joseph and Marie (St. Pierre) Tanguay and was a graduate of Stephens High School in Rumford, Class of 1940. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946 during WWII with Battery F Tenth Coast Artillery Battalion. He then went to work for Oxford Paper Company, retiring in 1983 from the Electrical Dept.

Ted was a communicant of St. Athanasius – St. John Church. He enjoyed family get-togethers, talking politics (with anyone who cared to listen). Never one to be idle for long, you could find him puttering around the house, fixing something or lending a hand to someone in need.

When he was in better health, he loved being at his camp at Garland Pond. He liked going for canoe rides or just sitting on the porch drinking a cold beer. He always said he had the “best view” from his camp. Well dad, now you have even a better view of your favorite place. We will think of you at Garland Pond.

Ted was married in Rumford on Sept. 27, 1947 to the former Charlotte M. Barton, “the prettiest girl in Massachusetts,” is what he said.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte of Rumford; two sons, Ted Tanguay of Roxbury and Dave Tanguay and his companion, Robyn MacDonald of Mexico; daughters, Linda Folsom of Roxbury and Jackie Tanguay of Lewiston; granddaughters, Christie Folsom of Vermont, Marina Bitondo of Wiscasset and Chelsea Bitondo of Mexico; a brother, Jude Tanguay and his wife, Gisele of Brunswick; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Deluca, Rumford Hospital and Androscoggin Home Health Care and Hospice for the wonderful care given to our father during his long journey. Also many thanks to Lisa Brown and Dale Brown who were like family to him and to Rick and Melanie Calden for being such caring neighbors. He looked forward to those visits.
