MINOT — Someone stole a minivan on Woodman Hill Road in the early morning Saturday and apparently rolled it over almost immediately, police said.

The green 2002 Mercury Voyager was taken from a driveway on upper Woodman Hill Road, also Route 119, and crashed about 4 miles away on lower Woodman Hill Road at 2:24 a.m, Androscoggin County Deputy Sgt. Rielly Bryant said.

“Whoever stole the vehicle lost control, rolled it over and fled the scene,” Bryant said. “The person who stole the vehicle was possibly at an underage drinking party at the railroad bed in West Minot, near the victim’s home.”

Bryant said police are looking for people with more information and tips, including a young man spotted walking on the roadside about a mile away from the accident scene. An ambulance stopped to talk with him and he denied being in the crash, Bryant said. “By the time deputies got to the area, he was already gone.”

The minivan’s owner had left the keys in the ignition. The vehicle, which rolled on a straightaway, was a total loss. Bryant put its value at $4,000. He also reminded homeowners and car owners: Lock up at night.

Calls can go to Bryant at 784-7361, extension 220.
