Camp for a cure

NORWAY — A Camp for a Cure for Alzheimer’s event will be held on Saturday, Aug. 14, beginning at 2 p.m., at Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center, 29 Marion Ave. Tent sites are $5.

There will be free music, popcorn, balloon artist, kids carnival games (first three games are free), horse and buggy rides and ice cream. Belly dancers will perform at 3 p.m. and a sing-along by the campfire will take place from 8 to 9 p.m. Other events will include a baby contest at 2 p.m. and a baked bean supper, for $5, from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

A free breakfast will be served to all campers on Sunday morning. For more information, call Lynne Roy at 743-7075.

Lobster and steak

SOUTH PARIS — The Oxford Hills Rotary Club will have its 24th annual Lobster and Steak Fest from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. The event will be held under tents, rain or shine. Meals will include lobster or steak, steamers, corn, french fries, beverages and watermelon. Musical entertainment will be by the “Yet to be Named Banjo Band.” The Western Maine Art Group will also hold a “lobster art” contest.

Ticket are $20 in advance and $25 the day of the event. Takeout meals will be available. Chinese auction

SOUTH PARIS — A Chinese auction to benefit the Viking Majorettes will be held on Saturday, Aug. 14, at the South Paris Fire Station. Doors will open at 3 p.m. and the drawing will be at 5 p.m.

There will be more than 300 items, a dollar table, 50/50 and food available. For more information, call 743-8197.

RUMFORD — The Rumford Bridge Club met Aug. 4 at the Senior Center. Results are as follows: first place, Judy Roy and Ann McCluskey; second place, Jessie Shea and Anna Cormier; third place, Jennifer Cohen and Debbie Stewart.

Girl Scout fundraiser

MEXICO — Girl Scouts of Maine Troop 805 is planning a trip to Washington, D.C., in 2012 to attend the Girl Scouts USA’s 100th birthday celebration and national sing-along.  To help raise funds, the troop will have a car wash, bake sale and yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, behind the Mexico Fire Station.

Peru reunion

PERU — The Peru Historical Society will host a Peru School reunion from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, at the former school building located at 26 Main St. Anyone associated with the school during its existence from 1937 to 2008 is urged to attend.

Bring a lawn chair and expect to reminisce with old pictures and blasts from the past. There will also be a guided tour of the former school. For more information, contact Robert Dolloff at 562-7141.
