MEXICO — Region 9 Adult Education will re-open for the fall starting on Monday, Aug. 30. Open enrollment for fall academic classes will run from 9 am to noon Monday, Aug. 30 to Friday, Sept. 3.

In order to enroll in any academic classes for the first session of classes, students must enroll and have completed all the paperwork and testing prior to Sept. 3. Regular hours start Tuesday, Sept. 7, and will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Night hours will begin Tuesday, Sept. 21, from 6 to 9 p.m. The fall brochure with enrichment classes should be in mailboxes by the end of August.

The fall offerings will be as follows:

Math I: The class will help students gain knowledge and confidence using fractions and decimals. Meets from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.

Math I: The class will cover percents, probability, ratios and an introduction to geometry. Chart and graph skills will also be introduced. Meets from 12:45 p.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.

Math III: The last class before taking the GED math test. It will introduce algebra concepts and further develop geometry skills. Meets from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Writing I: The class will review everything from basic sentence construction to writing a five-paragraph essay. Meets from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Writing II: The class will help students prepare for college writing. Attendees will discover different styles and types of writing to improve ability to communicate. Meets from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays.

Goal Setting: This class is for anyone who has goals they want to obtain, such as going to college, earning a GED or finding a career that will make them happy. Students will learn to make decisions, set time lines and figure out how to reach goals. Meets once a week, from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays or Wednesdays.

Study Skills: The class will help students understand how they learn best and provide pointers in how to be successful at studying. Meets once a week, from 9 to 10 a.m. Mondays or Thursdays.

Reading I: Participants will improve their reading skills in a nonthreatening, fun environment. Meets from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays.

Reading II: Students will learn techniques to improve their comprehension and vocabulary. Meets from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
