LEWISTON – Lots to Gardens is looking for people who live in downtown Lewiston and have a vegetable garden that they’d like to show off to others. They will host “Show What You Grow” at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, at the St. Mary’s Nutrition Center, 208 Bates St. The evening will give community members a chance to show off the things they’ve grown this season and get to know other gardeners in the neighborhood.

Participants will also have the opportunity to compare notes with other gardeners in the area on topics such as the best ways to trellis tomatoes, how to fight cucumber beetles and which varieties of string beans produce the most.

The event will start at 6 p.m. with a walking tour of gardens in the downtown Lewiston area, including some of Lots to Gardens’ own community gardens. The tour will conclude at 7:30 p.m. back at the Nutrition Center, where participants will gather for refreshments and a slide show of gardens from around Lewiston.

Those living in downtown Lewiston with gardens are welcome to be a part of the tour and those living outside of the downtown area may submit photos for a slide show.

A garden can be anything from a window box with tomatoes, buckets full of spinach and kale or cultivated beds next to a house or apartment building.

To learn more about the program, be part of the walking tour or to send photos, contact Lots to Gardens at 513-3844 or [email protected].
