DEAR SUN SPOTS: Are there any digital camera repair shops in the Lewiston-Auburn area? I have an error message on the camera — the lens won’t function properly. Thanks. — Mary Crane, dmcrane@megalink.net

ANSWER: Sun Spots has had this question before and did not find anyone in L-A. There was a place in the Portland area, but when Sun Spots talked to him, he was on the verge of closing his store. Unfortunately, most digital cameras (excluding the more expensive ones used by professionals) usually cost almost as much to fix as to buy a new one.

Sun Spots checked with Brad at Photo Finish in Auburn (783-3354), and he said, as Sun Spots expected, that you will need to contact the manufacturer. He said he sends cameras to a service center as indicated by the manufacturer.

If you don’t have your warranty papers with contact information on them, you can google your manufacturer and find it that way. Brad said he would be willing to help those not online.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I assist inmates leaving the Maine prison system on their return to the community. The men I work with are indigent and homeless and often have medical issues. A new organization, Prisoner Re-entry Project out of Portland, is being set up to assist these men. Eventually we hope to have a residence where they can stay as they move from prison to the community.

In the meantime, I am in need of personal hygiene items, bus passes and other practical items and services, such as haircuts. If anyone can help me help them, I can be reached at 782-6389 or items can be sent to P.O. Box 631, Lewiston, ME 04243-0631, Thank you. — Calvin E. Dube, inmate advocate
