100 years ago, 1910

Miss Albertine Faille of Montreal, a writer for La Patrie of Montreal under the pen name of Violette DeParme, is a guest of Dr. and Mrs. L. P. Ducharme of Lewiston. Miss Faille, who is a young girl of exceptional talent, recently won first prize for excellence in composition, offered to Montreal people. Since coming to Lewiston, she has contributed an article on “Sabattus” to Le Messager.

50 years ago, 1960

Plans for its program of gathering information on the problems of youth were discussed last night at a city building session of the Lewiston Youth Guidance Committee.

The committee will contact various institutions concerned with maladjusted children and the approach that will be made in contacting these institutions was among subjects talked over. The group also worked on the type of questions to be presented and the overall type of solicitation to be made.

25 years ago 1985

A severe electrical storm ripped through Lewiston-Auburn early Sunday evening, leaving in its wake downed trees and power lines and widespread power outages. Two Lewiston teenagers were in the intensive care unit at St. Mary’s Hospital after lightning struck a pine tree under which they were sitting, police said.

Lewiston Police Lt. Maurice Bolduc said the incident occurred behind a cluster of buildings at Pleasant View Acres.
