LEWISTON — An 18-year-old who was attacked with a stapler on Bartlett Street on Wednesday night was being checked out at a local hospital.

Police said the teen was stapled in the head as he fought with an older man inside a car at about 8:30 p.m. The suspect in the attack: the victim’s 21-year-old brother.

The names of the men were not available late Wednesday night. No charges were immediately filed, but the assault was being investigated.

“Right now, it looks like a family dispute between brothers,” police Lt. Mark Watson said.

Police said the men were scrapping inside a car when one produced a stapler and attacked the other. It was a standard desktop stapler, Watson said, not a more powerful pneumatic type.

“It doesn’t look like any of the staples entered his skull,” Watson said. “It appears they folded up before they could do any real damage.”

It was not clear what prompted the fight. The injuries were believed to be minor.
