100 years ago, 1910

Edmond Verville will open his new grocery store at 104 Lincoln St. this morning. The Verville Block, built after a fire in the wooden building some months ago, is one of the finest looking structures on Lincoln Street. It is five stories high and the front is of faced brick. Beside the grocery store, it contains four tenements of five rooms and a bath and wood shed each.

50 years ago, 1960

Lewiston Building Inspector Bertrand R. Rioux has issued a building permit for construction of a 32-lane bowling alley to be constructed for Eastern Associates on Westminster Street.

The bowling center, probably the largest in Maine, will be constructed by Fred I. Merrill, the South Portland contractor who is building the new Edward Little High School in Auburn.

Rioux said he understood the bowling center will feature tenpins, and that construction is due to start within a few days.

25 years ago 1985

SABATTUS — The Sabattus Board of Selectmen unanimously agreed Monday night to donate the necessary time and equipment to make ball fields for the Little League teams.

Besides requesting equipment use, Joe Rancourt, on behalf of the Sabattus Recreation Little League, requested and was granted two children-at-play signs, one for Pleasant Hill Road and one for the Old Lisbon Road.
