100 years ago, 1910

The annual convention of the Maine Undertakers’ Association will be held at the Falmouth Hotel, Portland, on Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 17-18. The first day will be spent in a  social way at Mitchell’s, where the proprietor will open up a famous clam bake. During the day, sports will be enjoyed. The business sessions will be on Thursday. A. S. Plummer of Auburn is the secretary and H. A. Teague of Lewiston is on the legislative committee of the association.

50 years ago, 1960

Lewiston police are investigating the theft of a toilet tank cover from Happy Jack Drive-In Restaurant on the Lisbon Road.

The theft took place Saturday night, police reported, when somebody removed the stainless steel tank cover from a restroom. It is similar to the tank covers used in many homes.

25 years ago 1985

A University of Maine professor evaluating Lewiston’s police department will give a status report to the Lewiston City Council on Thursday in a workshop to be held at the Ramada Inn.

Dr. Guvene Alpander will meet with the City Council at 4 p.m. to discuss the Police Department’s organization and personnel development, City Administrator Lucien B. Gosselin said Tuesday.

Alpander was hired by the city nine months ago to evaluate the police department as part of the city’s efforts to improve police protection.
