WALPOLE, Mass. — The wedding of Michelle Newman and Derrick Michael Gilbert was held on Jan. 2 in Walpole, Mass. The Rev. Emile Boutin officiated at the ceremony.

Mrs. Gilbert is the daughter of Richard and Heidi Newman of Walpole, Mass. Mr. Gilbert is the son of Douglas and Donna Gilbert of Dixfield.

The bride wore a strapless ivory gown and carried a bouquet of red and champagne roses.

The maid of honor was Holly Newman of Walpole, Mass., sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Kelly Newman of Walpole, Mass., sister of the bride, Jennifer Pickering of Portland and Lindsey McKay of Falmouth, friends of the bride, Deidre Gilbert of Dixfield, sister of the bridegroom, and Colleen McCann of Walpole, Mass., friend of the bride. Alice Nickles, of Millis, Mass., cousin of the bride, was flower girl.

Peter Gilbert of Front Royal, Va., brother of the bridegroom, performed the duties of best man. Ushers were Nathan Comellback of Waterville, Ronald Pelchat of Lancaster, N.H., Michael Morneau of Waterville and Ryan Munro of Walpole, Mass., all friends of the bridegroom, and David Gilbert of Rumford, cousin of the bridegroom. Ethan Gilbert of Rumford, godson of the bridegroom, was ring bearer.

The bride received a bachelor’s degree in child development and family relations in 2008 from the University of Maine and a master’s degree in special education in 2010 from the University of Maine. She is employed at Rainbow Station in Virginia Beach, Va.

The bridegroom is a 2002 graduate of Dirigo High School and attended the University of Maine. He is serving with the U.S. Navy as a petty officer third class in Norfolk, Va.
