TOPSHAM — Midcoast Youth Theater has assembled a cast of local middle-school students for its production of the musical “Thoroughly Modern Millie, Jr.” Performances will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Aug. 19-21, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug., 22 at Mt. Ararat High School.
Set in 1920s New York, the show revolves around young Millie Dilmount, who is determined to make a new life for herself. She leaves Kansas and moves to the Big Apple at a time when women are entering the work force and the rules of social behavior are changing. The story is told through such songs as “Not for the Life of Me,” “Forget About the Boy,” “Office Crossover,” “The Speed Test,” “How the Other Half Lives” and “Gimme Gimme.”
Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors, $5 for children ages 5 to 8. Tickets are available online at www.youth-theater.org and will be sold at the door.
