PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A conservative group wants the Portland City Council to rescind its vote that blocked a 19-year-old man from running a golf cart taxi service on the city’s Peaks Island.
The Maine Heritage Policy Center plans a news conference Wednesday at City Hall to issue a statement regarding the recent vote to change the city taxi ordinance. The Heritage Policy Center claims it’s anti-competitive and targeted at one individual, Matt Rand, a summer resident of Peaks Island who started the service.
The group also says it will outline its plan to sue the city of council doesn’t rescind its vote.
Portland Council voted to require golf carts to be licensed as taxis and carry insurance like any taxi operator.
