LEWISTON — Hundreds of people turned out Friday morning for a shoe give-a-way in Kennedy Park.

The slightly used shoes were collected and donated to the community by customers of Lamey-Wellehan. Store owner Jim Wellehan was on hand for the distribution Friday and said it appeared there was certainly a need in the community.

“It makes a lot more sense to the these than put them in a land fill,” Wellehan said. “I think we will see this need out there for at least the next couple of years.”

The shoe giveaway was part of  a resource fair sponsored by the At-Risk Committee of the Lewiston/Auburn Alliance for Services to the Homeless.

The  fair was aimed at  giving information about services that are available to people who are homeless or at risk.

Other agencies involved in the fair included: SeniorsPlus, DHHS, Healthy Androscoggin, Catholic Charities, Salvation Army and Common Ties.
