BOSTON — Nancy Palmer, 52, of Sabattus, left this earthly world surrounded by devoted family and friends on Friday, Aug. 27, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital after a four-year courageous fight with terminal adrenal cancer.

Nancy was born in Skowhegan, May 31, 1958, to Chester and Elizabeth Lombard. She graduated in 1976 from Valley High School in Bingham.

Her employment included her favorite job as captain of a tour boat in Sitka, Alaska, where she lived for three years while married to her former husband Carl Palmer. She also worked at Central Distributors Inc. and New England Surfaces, both in Lewiston. She lived for many years in Kittery, where her employment included managing a hotel in Rye, N.H.

Nancy had a zest for life that was unequaled. Of the many lessons she taught us, the most important was how to live. She never let anything, including her health, get in the way of an adventure. Whether on land or in her kayak/canoe, she always took the scenic route.

Her many hobbies included spending time with friends and family, cooking, photography, gardening, kayaking, camping, traveling, and collecting black cats, angels, and beach glass. Her St. Patrick’s Day and Christmas Eve gatherings (with her famous seafood “chowdah”) were legendary.

Perhaps her most amazing talent was her ability to connect on a special level with each and every person and to maintain that bond throughout her entire life, despite time and distance.

Nancy is survived by her father, Chester Lombard Jr.; her sister, Judy Olson; and her two cats, Sheba and Shiloh.

She was predeceased by her beloved mother, Elizabeth Lombard; soulmate, Dennis Hamel; and faithful furry companions Jed and Nikki.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at St. Mary’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders in Lewiston for the wonderful care they gave her. They also would like to thank her incredible support system of friends who have always been there for her.
