WEST PARIS — Grace M. (Kelley) Stanley, 101, of Mexico, passed away Monday, Aug. 30, at the Ledgeview Living Center, where she had been a patient for the past 15 years.

She was born on Nov. 3, 1908, in Kennebunk, the daughter of Arthur and Clara (Hanscom) Kelley.

A high school graduate, she had attended schools in Kennebunk.

Grace had worked at the Mexico Post Office for several years and later worked at Stanley’s Clothing and Sporting Goods store on Main Street. She was a faithful member of the Mexico First Baptist Church.

She and her husband, Leroy, enjoyed many summers at their camp on Webb Lake and loved driving around Western Maine in one of their convertibles searching for different places to visit and have lunch.

She was married in Mexico, Feb. 23, 1929, to Leroy A. “Lee” Stanley, who died in 1983.

In 2007, Grace received the Boston Gold Cane Award for being the oldest Mexico resident, and later received an acknowledgement of her 100th birthday from the town of Mexico and Governor Baldacci.

Survivors include her nephew, Lee Stanley and his wife, Nancy, of Gorham; a niece, Linda Stanley of Bayside, N.Y.; and a sister-in-law, Maude Stanley of Rumford.

She was always known for her witty humor and enjoyed her long stay at Ledgeview, and would like to thank all those at Ledgeview for the excellent care she received for the past 15 years.
