1. Bangor. A state champion from the East in the likely final year of the current Class A set-up? Hey, with big Joe Seccareccia throwing TD passes in one direction and knocking them down in the other, why not?

2. Cheverus. Time for the season everyone expected when John Wolfgram was hired.

3. Bonny Eagle. Last year was a down year, as defined by any year the Scots don’t win a state championship.

4. Portland. After a lull that lasted most of a decade, Bulldogs might be ready to bite again.

5. Lawrence. Yes, admittedly they’re the default pick for No. 2 in the PTC. But the Bulldogs have built that depth and earned that respect.

6. Lewiston. Deep group of running backs. Solid offensive line. In the era of the spread offense, Blue Devils may succeed by going all 1980s on us.

7. Windham. Reigning champions have been talked up higher than this in other quarters. Just not sure how you can lose the one-two punch of Taylor and Mallis without taking a step back.

8. Leavitt. You could apply that Windham logic here. Let’s be fair: The Hornets likely won’t be as good as they were in 2009. But they won’t have to be.

9. Biddeford. If you’ve been a high school football fan longer than, say, five years, you have to agree that it’s good to have the Tigers as part of the conversation again.

10. Mountain Valley. Falcons have arguably the best QB and RB in Western B. That’s probably enough to win it.
