Open house

OTISFIELD — The Bell Hill Meetinghouse on Bell Hill Road will be open for public inspection from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8 and 15. The open house is in partial compliance with the terms of a New Century Community Program grant for historic buildings renovation which the association received in 2008.

The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Socrates Cafe

WATERFORD — A Socrates Cafe gathering will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, at the Waterford Library. The group offers a forum to discuss current topics and ideas in a friendly atmosphere, where divergent views will be welcome.

The theme for the meeting is “What is responsibility in a free society?” The facilitator will be Jim Kearney. Due to the Labor Day holiday, the September meeting is postponed from the regular practice of meeting on the first Monday of each month. Library speaker

BRYANT POND — Floyd Keniston will be the guest speaker at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, at the Whitman Memorial Library. The topic of his presentation will his experiences at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.

The program is open to the public at no charge and light refreshments will be served.

Rug braiding

MEXICO — Rug braiding classes will be held at the Green Church from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, beginning Sept. 7. There will be no class on Sept. 14. Beginners are welcome.

There is no cost, but participants are asked to make a donation to the church for the use of the space. Natalie Reed has been teaching rug braiding in the Mexico/Rumford area for more than 40 years and continues, at age 80, to teach the classes, with the help of her daughter, Julieanne.
