LEWISTON – FLY football kicked off its season August 28 with opening ceremonies for Flag, Peewee Tackle, Junior, Senior and cheering programs.
Following the ceremonies, the American Engraving Jr. Lions lost a tough game to the Sabattus Disc Golf Jr. Steelers.
Garrett Poussard led the Steelers with three touchdowns. Cruz Poirier, Jacob Ajayi and Mike Greene highlighted a strong defense. The Jr. Lions were led on defense by Bennie Montgomery with eight tackles and three fumble recoveries. Jackson Boswell made three tackles, with Dylon Jackson, Xavier Jackson and Austin Heath delivering multiple stops. Ricky Cote and Davion Jackson paced the Lions offense against the tough Steelers defense.
Rooper’s Sr. Lions defeated the Easy Rent All Sr. Steelers. The Lions didn’t allow a first down in the entire game. Nick Harnden led the way with five tackles. Tim Robertson had an interception. Robertson also sparked the Lions with a 63-yard punt return for a touchdown. Legend Edwards scored on a 50-yard run. Dion Jackson, Josh Kobel and Isaiah Harris added TD scampers. Bryan Wagg and Nick Kelly led the Steelers defense.
Grimmel’s Gas Up Jr. Giants defeated the Gee & Bee Jr. Redskins in the toughest game of the day.
Brock Belanger passed for 65 yards and two TDs and ran for 121 yards and a touchdown to lead the Giants. Connor Kaplinger and Lucas Nichols also scored for the Giants.
Dylan Wood, Keegan Voss. Cody Poisson-Bragdon and Thomas Brochu led the Giants’ offensive line. Tanner Sturgis sparked the defense with seven tackles. Belanger also had an interception. Shawn Jackson led the ‘Skins both offensively and defensively. Damon Gagne contributed eight tackles and Tanner Cortes had a fumble recovery.
In the final Game of the day, the Sr. Giants defeated the Sr. Redskins. Quintarian Brown, Josh Knight and Justin McCarthy led the Giants’ powerful offense. Kody Voisine, Zach Abisalih, Nate Osgood and Ryan Bell powered the defense. The Redskins were led on offense by Joey Zembas and Chad Dumais. Defensively, Christian Fowler, Cane Dulac, Noah Withee and Austin Greeley showed the way.
