AUBURN — Dorothy Frances (Schipf) Commune, born Sept. 6, 1917, in Brooklyn, N.Y., passed away on Saturday, Aug. 28. Formerly of New Jersey, Dorothy resided in South Portland and the Gray and New Gloucester area. For the past year, she enjoyed a residence at Clover Manor, Auburn.
For 40 years she was a devoted and active member of Jehovah’s Witnesses, primarily in the Auburn and Gray/North Yarmouth congregations. She was active in the full-time ministry for nearly 30 years, sharing Bible study and scripture with many people. She will be remembered as a caring and faithful individual with a positive, spiritual influence. Her greatest joy was to be involved with her children, family and friends. Her past-time was to watch old movies, listen to music and she loved to sing. She will be greatly missed and remembered for her encouragement to love God and family, her generosity, love and infectious laughter.
She was married for 25 years to Victor J. Commune (deceased). She was predeceased by a sister, Evelyn Volkens; and a brother, Joseph Schipf. She is survived by a sister, Helen McDonald of Tavares, Fla.; four children and spouses, Victor J. and Delores Commune, Allan H. and Dawn Commune, Carol A. (Commune) and Paul Zack, and Lea J. (Commune) and Dale Poland; and six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom she greatly loved and cherished.
Arrangements are under the care of Funeral Alternatives, 417 U.S. Route 1, Falmouth.
