AUBURN — Emily Ranucci got her stick on a nice cross from Ashley Butler and fired it into the net with 27 seconds left in the first half, lifting Edward Little to a 1-0 victory over Oxford Hills in KVAC field hockey action Thursday.

Butler fired her cross from outside the 25, but it reached its intended recipient. Amanda Williams made six saves in net for the Red Eddies (3-0) to notch the win.

Rachael Brennan turned back nine shots in the cage for Oxford Hills (1-1).

Mt. Ararat 2, Lewiston 1

LEWISTON — Caitlin LaFonatine drilled a shot into the net from 15 yards out with 3:09 left in regulation to lift Mt. Ararat to a 2-1 victory over Lewiston in a KVAC field hockey matchup.

Amber Bowley gave the Eagles (2-1) a 1-0 advantage early in the second frame with an assit from Charlotte Crosby. Saba Naji scored the Blue Devils’ (0-3) lone goal shortly after to tie the contest.

Raven demasi made six saves for Mt. Ararat to record the win, while Allison Lafreniere turned back 16 shots between the posts for Lewiston.

Girls’ soccer

Lisbon 0, Wiscasset 0

WISCASSET — Try as they may, the Lisbon girls’ socer squad just couldn’t find the back of the net. The Greyhounds (2-0-1) outshot Wiscasset 23-5 but still walked away with a 0-0 tie in MVC action.

Brooke Lawrence hit one off the post from 25 yards out for Lisbon, one of three near misses during the contest.

Kasey Cromwell made 14 saves for Wiscasset while defending her home turf. Kyrstin Ramich turned back three shots in net for Lisbon, yet lacked vital support from the offensive unit.

Monmouth 2, Winthrop 0

WINTHROP — Danielle Baumann and Carly Kemp each tallied a goal in the second half as Monmouth rolled to a 2-0 victory over Winthrop in an MVC girls’ soccer tilt Thursday.

Ashley Colombe also contributed for the Mustangs (2-1) with an assist. Kelsie Hilton made six saves for Monmouth to preserve the shutout, while Danialle Pease turned back eight shots in goal for the Ramblers (0-3).

Madison 3, Jay 1

JAY — Jen Brown netted an unassisted goal with seven minutes left in regulation to lift Madison to a 3-1 victory over Jay in a MVC girls’ soccer tilt.

Kianna Libby and Kirsten Wood also tallied for the Bulldogs (1-2) to complete the scoring. Madison jumped out to a 1-0 advantage in the first frame and was never challenged.

Lexi Deering tallied the Tigers’ (2-1) lone goal with 15 minutes left to play in the contest. Savanna Kandoki made six saves for Madison to record the win, while Katie Beaulieu turned back five shots for Jay.

Greely 8, Poland 1

POLAND — Sammi Toorish collected a hat trick and Sara Schad added another two goals as Greely whisked past Poland (1-2) with an 8-1 victory in a girls’ soccer game Thursday.

The Rangers (2-0) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half before adding an additonal five goals in second. Kelly Burrell, Audrey Parlin and Maggin Johnson each had a goal for Greely.

Poland’s Emma Turton spoiled Greely’s would-be shutout when she scored on a Tarnisha Elston feed in the second half.

Poland goalie Cassie Mocciola was busy all day in net making 18 saves. The Rangers outshot the Knights, 33-6

Boy’ soccer

St. Dom’s 2, Hall-Dale 0

FARMINGDALE — Goalkeeper Cam Hainey frustrated Hall-Dale’s attack by keeping the ball out of the net and Dakota Keene and Alex Parker provided the offense to send St. Dom’s to a 2-0 boys’ soccer victory in an MVC matchup Thursday.

Keene scored in the 30th minuter of the first half off of pass from Chris Finlay and fired a long shot from outside the box that beat Hall-Dale’s Jonathan McNaughton. Parker added an unassisted goal in the second half, also from outside the 18-foot box.

Hainey made four saves to preserve the shutout for the Saints (2-0), while McNaughton made six saves for the Bulldogs (1-1).

Monmouth 3, Winthrop 0

WINTHROP — Tim Whitemore scored two goals and Kyle Fletcher followed with another in the second half as Monmouth shook off Withrop (1-2) with a 3-0 victory in a boys’ soccer game Thursday.

After a scoreless first half, Whitemore went right to work and scored back-to-back goals before Fletcher topped off the Mustangs’ (2-0) victory. Monmouth’s Brandon Goff and Eirc Coulombe turned excellent performances on defense to back up goalie Robby Neal, who preserved his shutout with six saves.

Monmouth outshot Winthrop, 25-6, and held the advantage in penalty corners at 5-0.
