AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library, 49 Spring St., will host an illustrated presentation by Woodrow Thompson of the Maine Geological Survey at noon Thursday, Sept. 16.

Thompson’s presentation, “Rock Hunting for Fun and Profit,” will introduce the basics of rock and mineral hunting in South Central Maine. He will discuss where to look, what equipment to bring and what treasures one might find.

Thompson is a physical geologist with the Maine Geological Survey who works in the areas of mineralogy, mineral hunting and education. An experienced mineral hunter, he is also a recent organizer of the Maine Mineral Symposium, which annually draws between 300 and 350 mineral enthusiasts from throughout Maine.

The free brown bag lunch program will be held in the library’s Androscoggin Community Room. Attendees are welcome to bring a bagged lunch if they like or order out at The Library Cafe. The library will provide drinks and deserts.
