LEEDS — Vilda F. Bachelder, 90, a resident of River Road, Leeds, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, at her home.

She was born Feb. 25, 1920, in Salem, the daughter of Nial and Doris M. Reed Moody. Vilda attended school in Phillips. On Sept. 26, 1936, in Phillips, she and Walter J. Bachelder Sr. were married; Walter passed away in 1990.

Vilda was a wonderful mom and grandmother, she loved all of her kids and they all loved her. When she was younger, she worked at Livermore Shoe, Maine Egg in Greene and the clothespin factory in Strong. Vilda enjoyed knitting, cooking and baking; she really enjoyed spending time with her kids, especially all the babies.

She is survived by six sons, Lee Bachelder and his wife, Lucretia, of Berwick, Earl Bachelder and his wife, Jan and Denis Bachelder and his wife, Cheryl, all of Friendship, Tony Bachelder and his wife, Becky, of Buckfield, Dalon Bachelder of Leeds and Steve Bachelder and his wife, Lisa, of Leeds; six daughters, Glenis Jackson of Avon, Evelyn Ray and her husband, Vern, of Greene, Christine Hafford of Monmouth, Irene Hafford, Deana Hewins and her husband, Albert and Noreen Chamberlain and her husband, Peter, all of Leeds; 69 grandchildren; 153 great-grandchildren; and 48 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Emily of Farmington; a half brother, Andy of Chesterville; and a half sister, Marion of Sullivan.

She was predeceased by her husband, Walter; three sons, Walter, George and Leonard; seven grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers; and two sisters.
