LEWISTON — The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society is accepting registrations for the 14th annual Strutt Your Mutt dog walk and pet festival, to be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Simard-Payne Memorial Park.
The morning will feature a 9:30 a.m. Blessing of the Animals followed by a shotgun start for walkers and their canine companions. There will be pet crafts, vendors, raffles and canine agility demonstrations. Attendees can also enter their pooch in one of the talent contests. Contest categories include: Best Tail Wagger, Least Obedient Dog, Best Trick, Best Smile, Best Kisser and Best Bark.
Cost to register for the walk is $15 in advance (received no later than Sept. 17) and $25 on site the day of the event. Walkers are also asked to collect pledges. There will be a registration fee for the talent contests of $3 each class or four classes for $10.
The top fundraiser will be eligible for an installed Dog Watch Hidden Fence System for one-half acre and and dog. The money raised from the event will directly benefit the animals at humane society for their food, shelter, veterinary care and a chance at a new home.
This is a “people walk”; dogs are welcome, but not necessary. Walking as a team through a business or with friends is also encouraged. Dogs must be leashed and have their current rabies vaccination. Dogs in heat will not be permitted.
Pledge sheets are available at the shelter and online at www.gahumane.org. Walkers can also register online at www.firstgiving.com to create personal fundraising pages.
