AUBURN — Gertrude Helen Bennett passed away Sept. 10, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin, after a long battle with breast cancer.

She was born in Lewiston on Feb. 26, 1935, the daughter of the late Louis Sr. and Welhemina (St. Laurent) Caron. She was educated and worshiped through St. Mary’s Church. She worked for many years at the local shoe shops and mills. She later became a medical technician, working in several nursing homes for 15 years until her retirement. She was always smiling and willing to help anyone in need. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and quilting. She spent her free time knitting mittens for local school children and feeding birds. She was an amazing, loving mother and an even better memere.

She is survived by her daughters, Christine Peterson and Tammy Desmarais; two grandchildren, Renee Desmarais and Michael Peterson; her son, Wayne Doustou, and stepson, Jeffrey Doustou; her sisters; Lucienne Goupile and her husband, Roland, Rita Mathew and her husband, Andy; her brothers; Alphonse Caron and his wife, Ida, Phil Caron and his wife, Rita, Arthur Caron and his wife, Marion, and Alphee Caron; her extended family in Massachusetts, especially her sister-in-law, Sheila Ford.

She was predeceased by her husband, Gary Bennett; her sisters, Theresa Boucher and Adrienne Cote; and a brother, Louis Caron Jr. The family would like to thank everyone at the Hospice House for their kindness and service.
