AUBURN — A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial honoring the life of Harry Jones Jr., was celebrated by the Rev. Richard McLaughlin Friday morning at Sacred Heart Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish. At the beginning of Mass, Harry’s grandson, Matthew Jones, carried his grandfather’s flag into church and set it next to his grandfather’s urn. The offertory gifts were brought to the altar by Mr. and Mrs. Ray Morin, close family friends. There was also a delegation of former teachers in attendance from Edward Little High School. At the conclusion of Mass in replace of an eulogy, the congregation was invited to share words of remembrances; first by former student, Jack Dubuc, who viewed Harry as a mentor; second, Frank Proulx of Schooner Estates, who befriended Harry and Pat when they resided there; fellow and former Edward Little High School teacher, Al Harvie, who spoke fondly of his memories of working with Harry; and another fellow teacher, Jacques Dubois, who reiterated Harry’s strong Catholic faith, which he witnessed in the Cursillo movement in Augusta; Pat Jones Burnham, who was a close family friend whom adored both Harry and his wife, Pat; and finally by Harry’s grandson, Matthew, who thanked everyone on behalf of his family for sharing their memories of his grandfather that touched them so much.

Following a procession to Mt. Hope Cemetery, the Rev. McLaughlin recited graveside committal prayers, after which the United States Marine Corps honor detail played taps and presented our country’s flag to Harry’s son, Peter, in recognition of his father’s service to his country during World War II in the Pacific theater. At the conclusion of services, all were then invited to a reception of fellowship at the Sacred Heart Church Hall. Arrangements by Dillingham & Son Memorial Chapel and Tribute Center, Auburn.
